2022 Prism

$45

Forget everything you thought you knew about GSMs. Prism kicks convention to the curb, leading with a bold Mourvèdre charge. This isn’t some polite, fruit-forward waltz; it’s a shadowy tango of dark berries, smoky whispers, and an earthy funk that says, “Yeah, I’ve seen things.” Grenache adds its sunny swagger, while a splash of Syrah brings just enough spice to refract the truth. Prepare for a wine that’s not unlike a truly uncensored conversation with your most interesting friend.

Poor Prism! For the longest, loneliest time, he was the cellar's awkward, Mourvèdre dominant youth, perpetually compared to his boisterous, raspberry-chasing cousins—those flashy, Grenache-led extroverts. Where they screamed fruit! with alarming clarity, Prism offered only a mysterious, almost smoky whisper of black olive, a profound rumble of earth, and an herbaceous backbone so seriously built it could probably solve differential equations. He was misunderstood as "too rustic," "too shy," and—the ultimate insult—"not quite like the others." He was resigned to his fate as a perennial wallflower when fate, in the form of a sizzling, gamey vision, intervened.

Enter Charred Lamb & Za’atar Skewers. This was no delicate teacake; this was a culinary rock star, loud, proud, and unapologetically pungent—a complex, beautiful chaos of fat, fire, and the dizzying aromatic ruckus of Za’atar. The other wines scoffed, certain the Lamb would devour the shy, earthy Prism whole.

But the moment they met, it wasn't a clash; it was a revelation. Prism's dark, earthy structure and savory black olive notes didn't vanish; they rose up, embracing the charred smoke and the pungent Za’atar spices. The Lamb's messy complexity suddenly found its anchor in Prism’s grounded nature, making his formerly "stiff" herbaceous spine the perfect scaffolding for the Lamb's richness.

Prism wasn't an ugly duckling; he was a swan waiting for a chaotic, flavorful accomplice to finally unfurl his profound, beautiful wings. His darkness was not shyness; it was the depth needed to illuminate the Lamb’s bold, sensual truth.

Copious Notes

Hailing from the sun-drenched Destiny Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, this Mourvèdre-dominant GSM blend strikes a perfect balance of structure and elegance. Aged for 18 months in a thoughtful mix of 29% New French Oak. With a rich but restrained alcohol of 14.8% and a long, expressive finish, this Rhône-inspired blend is a standout in every way, making it an undeniable winner.

The 2022 Eastern Washington wine harvest was a large and successful vintage despite starting with a challenging, cold, and wet spring that delayed growth. A favorable, warm October ultimately saved the season, allowing the grapes to fully ripen and boosting the crop size significantly over 2021. This "rollercoaster" season delivered exceptional quality, particularly for white varieties like Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, which saw huge volume increases while retaining high natural acidity and freshness. The harvest finished smoothly, leaving winemakers with plenty of high-quality fruit that they anticipate will produce standout wines.
